Privacy Policy
EFFECTIVE: APRIL 2026
The short version: Groove Pocket does not collect, track, sell, or share any personal data with third parties. The app stores your practice log, badges, and settings on your device and (if you have an iCloud account) syncs them to your other devices via Apple's iCloud — encrypted in transit and at rest, accessible only to you. There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
WHAT THE APP STORES
Groove Pocket creates and stores the following data on your device:
- Practice log entries — title, date, duration, BPM, module, tags, notes. Created by you or auto-created when you complete a Train lesson.
- Training progress — which lessons you've completed and when.
- Badges and streak history — earned trophies and the dates earned.
- App settings — your selected default module, onboarding completion, and "solo on tab switch" preference.
This data lives on your device in Apple's standard CoreData and UserDefaults storage. It is not transmitted anywhere except as described in the iCloud section below.
ICLOUD SYNC
If you are signed into iCloud on your device, Groove Pocket uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit and the iCloud Key-Value Store) to sync the data above between your Apple devices. This sync is handled entirely by Apple's frameworks — your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in your private iCloud container, and accessible only by you. Marc Wilhite (the developer) cannot access your iCloud data.
If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud Drive, the app continues to work fully — sync simply pauses. Your data remains on the local device.
IN-APP PURCHASE
Groove Pocket+ is a one-time non-consumable in-app purchase processed by Apple. The app receives a verification receipt from Apple confirming entitlement. Marc Wilhite does not receive your payment information, name, email address, or any other personal information from Apple's purchase flow.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (no Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, etc.).
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not display the App Tracking Transparency prompt because we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not have a backend server. The app talks only to Apple's services (App Store for IAP, iCloud for sync).
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
- We do not require an account, registration, or login. The only identity layer is Apple's iCloud, which we use as a sync mechanism only.
DIAGNOSTICS
Apple may collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage statistics for any iOS app, depending on whether you have enabled "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. If enabled, Marc Wilhite may receive aggregated, anonymized crash data via Apple's Xcode Organizer. This data does not identify you.
CHILDREN
Groove Pocket is rated 4+ and is appropriate for all ages. The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes in any material way, the "Effective" date at the top will be updated and the previous text will be archived in the version control history of the public Groove Pocket Support repository. Major changes will also be announced in the app's release notes.
